Google's Gemini Multimodal Live API enables full-duplex, real-time voice and text conversations with tool calling, streaming audio, and mid-session instruction updates. Building on it raw means wrestling with WebSocket frame parsing, binary/text codec differences between Google AI and Vertex AI, authentication token management, voice activity detection, barge-in handling, and turn lifecycle -- before you write a single line of agent logic.
